The City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council has awarded contracts for the design and installation of roof-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) systems across three major leisure facilities.
The project is grant-funded by the West Yorkshire Mayoral Fund and carries a strict delivery deadline; all works must be substantially completed and invoiced by 31 March 2026.
Contract Award Details
The council split the project into three distinct lots. Two specialist renewable energy firms, Go Low Carbon and Howpow, secured the works.
| Lot | Site | Contractor | Award Value |
| Lot 1 | Sedbergh Pool and Leisure Centre | Go Low Carbon | £175,000 |
| Lot 2 | Bowling Pool | Howpow | £10,833 |
| Lot 3 | Ilkley Lido | Go Low Carbon | £83,333 |
Project Scope
The contractors are responsible for a full “turnkey” solution designed to maximize on-site electricity generation for immediate consumption. The scope includes:
-
Design & Survey: Structural roof surveys, wind uplift assessments, and system design to maximize available roof space.
-
Hardware: Supply of PV panels, mounting systems, inverters, and monitoring equipment.
-
Infrastructure: Integration with existing electrical distribution boards and management of all DNO (Distributed Network Operator) applications with Northern Powergrid.
-
Protection: Mandatory installation of bird protection measures as part of the system design.
Sustainability Goals
The installations are part of Bradford’s wider carbon reduction strategy. The systems are specifically configured for on-site consumption, directly reducing the operational costs and carbon footprint of the district’s high-energy leisure assets.
Technical Requirements for Completion
With the 31 March deadline looming, the contractors are expected to coordinate closely with the BMDC Energy and Electrical Engineering teams to ensure rapid commissioning and testing.
